Duns Park & Bluidy Burn Flood Risk Management
Overview
The area from Duns Park to Clockmill is a popular amenity area used by the residents of Duns for walking and leisure activities.
Over the last 20 years, as the climate has changed, the area now suffers more frequently from flooding and saturated ground due to changes in rainfall. Often this sees the west end of Duns Park waterlogged for long periods and unusable at various time in the year. The board walk which forms the footpath through the wetland nature reserve is also underwater more regularly, making this unusable at certain times.
The existing wetland nature reserve is also increasing in size both in a northerly and easterly direction into Duns Park which over time will see this area of the park become unusable. In addition to this the arable fields on the left bank of the culverted Bluidy Burn and grass fields on the right bank are more regularly flooded.
Scottish Borders Council and partners Tweed Forum have been exploring if natrual process can be used to relieve the flood risk and improve the overall amenity of the area for the longer term.
