Gala Policies User Survey

Closes 25 Nov 2024

Opened 1 Nov 2024

Overview

The Gala Policies is an area of woodland in Galashiels nestled between Gala Academy, Scott Park, Balmoral and the Hollybush Road. The site was formerly the grounds of New Gala House which was purchased by the council in 1974, and the Scott family vacated the house in 1976. The house thereafter was allowed to fall into disrepair and, despite being a Grade B listed building, it had to be demolished on safety grounds in 1983.  It has subsequently become an important green space for both people and nature.

Today, the Gala Policies is an outdoor green space with  many  heritage trees, mixed woodland, grassland and various paths and trails - a place for people to enjoy and nature to thrive.

Scottish Borders Council is interested to hear your thoughts on how you currently use the Gala Policies and your vision for the future, which will help inform a new management plan for the site coming in spring 2025.

Outlined below is a range of options that were highlighted as common themes during user group interviews that took place during September and October 2024.

The survey is broken down into a few sections including:

  • How you currently use the Gala Policies
  • What improvements could be made
  • Your thoughts on volunteering
  • General information about you and how you access the policies

Please leave any additional comments and suggestions you have for Gala Policies in the comments section at the end of the form.

Thank you for completing this survey. It should take no more than a few minutes.
