Proposal to Relocate Galashiels Academy
Overview
Scottish Borders Council is proposing to relocate Galashiels Acdemy to a campus site comprising the existing Academy site and extending into Scott Park, Galashiels. This proposal will see the creation of a new secondary school and additional support needs setting comprised in a new campus, including a swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool and sports facilities for use by the whole community. The proposal also includes the extension and improvement of Scott Park.
The Council is now seeking your views on a proposal to relocate Galashiels Academy and the creation of the new campus.

Why your views matter
Scottish Borders Council are consulting on this proposal to obtain your views to help shape the future of education and community sports provision within Galashiels. In putting together this proposal, the Council has incorporated comments and feedback from earlier consultations that took place with the community in 2018 and 2019.
Before the Council proceeds with the process to build a new campus it is important that the voices in the community are heard and this is an opportunity to express your views and opionions regarding the proposal as well as make alternative suggestions.

What happens next
At the end of the consultation period, Scottish Borders Council will provide copies of the responses (or if agreed a summary) to Education Scotland along with a summary of all oral representations made at the public meeting. Education Scotland will then visit the school(s) and meet with parents/carers, pupils and staff to discuss the proposal(s). Education Scotland will then prepare a report on the educational aspects of the proposal, taking into account the representations and meetings that they have had. The Education Scotland report will be published within 3 weeks of the receipt of the information from Scottish Borders Council.
After receiving the Education Scotland report, Scottish Borders Council will review the proposal taking account of all the written and oral representations and the Education Scotland report. The Council will then prepare and publish a consultation report which will include a recommendation and made available for inspection. The Council will not make a decision regarding the proposal until 3 weeks after the publication of the consultation report.
