We asked

Scottish Borders Council is undertaking a destination playpark project in Eyemouth as part of the Playpark Capital Investment Program 2025/2026. Consultation was held in person and online in the month of July to get the community involved in the design of the project. This report is the results and the voice of the community consultation.

We asked you to tell us what you would like to see included in the designs of the new wheeled sports facility and play park in Eyemouth. We also asked whether you would prefer a skate park or a pump track as your wheeled facility?

You said

You said you wanted a pump track and highlighted preferred layouts from the examples we provided. You also gave popular suggestions for a theme for the play park.

We did

We will incorporate your feedback into the design of the new play park and pump track within the budget amounts available and endeavour to create wonderful new facilities that meet the needs and desires of the community. Thank you for your support.

Overview

Scottish Borders Council is spending almost £5 million to enhance play facilities across the region over a seven-year period.  The plan is to improve outdoor activity for all children and young people. SBC currently has 187 play parks ranging from smaller local areas for play to destination play parks.  A programme of investment has been developed based on previous improvements to play areas and community spaces to provide children and young people with meaningful play opportunities.  To help ensure this is achieved, play parks will include items that are accessible for all, such as wheelchair roundabouts, multi-play units, basket swings and play panels.

Planning has already started to provide new facilities at the Eyemouth primary school field, consisting of a play park and a wheeled sports facility. The new Eyemouth Destination Play Park & Wheeled Sports Facility is proposed to be provided within the 2025/26 programme. This survey is to find out what improvements you would like to see in this play space.

The online consultation is being run alongside a series of face to face community events in Eyemouth.

Why your views matter

SBC would like your views of what play facility you would like to see to help shape the future of these play spaces for children and young people. We are now holding a public consultation to seek the views of the community as to what play equipment/features you would like to see installed in this area.

What happens next

The results of the survey and next steps will be available to view here.  SBC will continue to work with the community as the play area is developed.
