Alcohol Byelaws 2020

Closes 1 Nov 2020

Consultation Contents

Before it decides whether or not an alcohol byelaw will be introduced in any or all of the four towns, Scottish Borders Council needs to be satisfied that it is appropriate to do so. For each town there are questions about:

  • Support for an Alcohol Byelaw
  • The area covered by the Alcohol Byelaw
  • Potential exemptions for an Alcohol Byelaw (e.g. New Year's Eve)
  • Impact of an Alcohol Byelaw for the town

You have the option to answer for any or all of the towns you want to. Alternatively, you do not need to answer in respect of any or all of the towns. However, you will need to complete the pages marked as Required before submitting your response.

If an alcohol byelaw is introduced, it will be on a pilot basis so that the effect on individuals and the wider community can be monitored and you are asked to give your opinion on a suitable timescale for that.

Below is an example of what an Alcohol Byelaw may look like in legal and plain English versions. Also below are FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) related to an Alcohol Byelaw.
