Consultation Report - Statutory Consultation on Closure of Eddleston Primary school and rezone of catchment

Overview

Please find below The Consultation Report for the Statutory Consultation on the Proposal for the Permanent closure of Eddleston Primary School and the rezone of the catchment. The Statutory Consultation was run in accordance with The Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 (As Amended).

The purpose of this Statutory Consultation was to seek robust opinion and feedback on the proposal for the permanent closure of Eddleston Primary School and the rezone of the catchment area.

The school has been temporarily closed (or mothballed) since June 2023. There have been reviews of the status of the school during that time in conjunction with the local community, and a formal statutory consultation was undertaken over 2025/2026 to ensure robust feedback on the proposal to close the school permanently, and to comply with statutory obligations under The Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 ( As Amended).

We received 47 responses in total ( 46 citizen space forum online and 1 emailed response) which identifed a wide range of views and opinions which needed to be considered. We also recieved 1 further email to the school estates email address as a follow up to a response already submitted online and included within the 46 received online on the Scottish Borders Council Citizen Space Statutory Consultation forum.

We also received a report from Education Scotland on the educational benefits of the proposal in line with statutory requirements.

Once we have your further feedback on the Consultation Report, all the feedback will be added to the Consultation Report.

The final Consultation Report and will then go before elected members at the next full Council meeting on 25th June 2026 to make a decision on the Proposals.
